This good yellow flower comes out here in late April/early May. I took this picture on May 8. This is a much smaller form than most acuminatas and reasonably tight.. The species is generally considered hardy into the northeastern US.

I’ve had M globosa growing in my scionblock for many years. It is only about 8′ tall and as wide. The flowers are fragrant and hang like eggs, barely opening, but the leaves are much more interesting. They are think and shiny and rough on top with a brown indumentum. This is not a hardy tree however. Maybe zone 7 is as low as it will go. For description and pic go to http://www.magnoliastore.com/ and hit the Collection tab at the top.
