The distinctive color of this tree all summer long makes it desirable for any garden. Supposedly it can get 30′, but my reasonably mature specimen is 15′. It is densely branched with thin twigs. Fall color is orange yellow. My tree seems to always have a halo; I think it is my favorite. zone 6

Kashima (Acer palmatum ‘Kashima’ )
Kashima is a green dwarf often used for bonsai; if unfertilized the leaves are tiny, but with plenty of water and fertilizer, this can be a strong growing shrub. Fall photo from Winch.

Kasagiyama (Acer palmatum ‘Kasagiyama’ )
The color on this cultivar is very ususual as there is a sort of brick-like mottling as the leaves age. The tree stays short, no more than about 12 feet, but it can be almost that wide. zone6

Kandy Kitchen (Acer palmatum ‘Kandy Kitchen’ )
Kandy Kitchen is a red leafed dwarf which is better than the name deserves. It reminds me of Fireball or Elizabeth but is somewhat more vigorous and has a little variation in the red color sort of like Royale.

Kamagata (Acer palmatum ‘Kamagata’ )
Kamagata is a green leafed dwarf which appears fragile and delicate but is actually a hardy healthy cultivar; the leaves are small, long and irregularly lobed; it grows to a 4′ x 4′ mound holding its leaves long in the fall with golden and orange colors.

Johnnie’s Pink (Acer palmatum ‘Johnnies Pink’ )
In my next life, I am only going to sell trees with ‘pink’ or ‘dwarf’ in the name and I bet it’s a grand success. Johnnie’s pink is sort of pink in the spring, but then the leaves get brownish–no brown is a depressing word–how about ‘mauve’ and then green for the summer. Will stay under ten feet.

Jiro shidare (Acer palmatum ‘Jiro shidare’ )
As you can see from this photo, I have had this cultivar growing on the place for many years and until lately was spectacularly unimpressed. It struck me as pointless to have a weeping tree that had a palmate leaf, but this year I reexamined my jugdment and found it wrong. I waited for the leaves to fall so that you would see the structure of this lovely cultivar. As I mentioned the green leaf is small and regularly palmate.

Japanese Sunrise (Acer palmatum ‘Japanese Sunrise’ )
Acer palmatum ‘Japanese Sunrise’ is going to mimic the colors of the ever popular Sango kaku. ‘Japanese Sunrise’ emerges in the spring with very light green leaves that really pop against the remanence of red stems from winter. These leaves mature to a darker yet still light green color in the summer.
