This is the best of the Ghost series in my opinion. It has the superb reticulation on an almost white leaf in spring with pink overtones. The growth habit is a wide cone; to 6′. zone 5

Shishio Improved (Acer palmatum ‘Shishio Improved’ )
This is one of the trees in the corallinum group as you can tell by the spring leaf coloring. This tree is more likely to ‘tree up’ than many of the others, by which I mean that it will get some height (12′) and look more like a tree than a bush. zone 5.

Shishigashira (Acer palmatum ‘Shishigashira’ )

A small tree, very slow-growing to 15′, with very small crinkly leaves set densely on the branches. Fall color as you see here. zone 6

Shirazz (Acer palmatum ‘Shirazz’)
To the naked eye, this is the same plant as ‘Geisha Gone Wild’; a marvelous semi-dissectum on account of its vigor and color.

Shindeshojo (Acer palmatum ‘Shinde shojo’ )
One of the Corallinum group, I don’t think I could tell it from Shishio Improved or some of the others, but this picture from Michael Healy certainly captures the spring color. Zone 5.

Shigitatsusawa (Acer palmatum ‘Shigitatsusawa’)
This is the quintessential reticulated leaf in my book: regular, ovate, and green. However this is a sloooow grower. Good red fall color

Size: 1 gallon | Price: $35.00 |
Size: Field grown | Price: $130.00 |
Shigarami (Acer palmatum ‘Shigarami’)
In the spring this tree’s small palmate leaves are a bright green rimmed in purple, much like Tsumagaki, but the striking coloration doesn’t last long. The nice thing about the tree is that it is a graceful upright to 10′ which can grow in full sun, whereas Tsumagaki melts in the sun.

Shidava Gold (Acer palmatum ‘Shidava Gold’ )
Shidava Gold (great name, n’est pas) is supposedly a dwarf form of Aoyagi (broom from?). Personally I find Aoyagi pretty unprepossessing. However I went to a J. Maple talk which consisted mostly of slides of this cultivar and I was blown away. The leaves are light green; the branches are green.

Sherwood Flame (Acer palmatum ‘Sherwood Flame’ )
This upright red is an improvement on Burgundy Lace, its parent. It holds its color in summer and turns a lovely scarlet in the fall. Zone 5.
